What We Want
We seek to have a safe, clean and fun beach environment we can enjoy.
We also want to be able to bring our families and guests to the beach to have an enjoyable time without being embarrassed, harassed or insulted.
For many years we have personally witnessed actions that would insult most of us if we were walking down the boardwalk or along the beach with our loved ones. Simply put, we are all San Diego citizens and we are tired of our beaches being overrun by inconsiderate people - many usually under the influence of alcohol.
These things are regular occurrences on a year round basis - not just limited to holidays or, individual media reports.
- Minors drinking
- People fist fighting
- Constant shouting, yelling, bantering and badgering
- People exposing themselves
- People vomiting from too much drinking
- Hearing people cussing at each other
- Seeing couples groping each other
- Hear demeaning comments towards women
- Seeing all the variety of drinking game and other 'toys' including but, not limited to beer funnels, liquor luges, crazy bats, beer-pong tables and blow-up dolls
- Hearing amplified music from long distances
- Seeing trash and litter pile up - with trash cans in plain view
- Hearing chants and yelling from participants of various drinking games
- Having to deal with the large groups (i.e. 20-100 people) which essentially overtake large portions of the beach with no consideration for others (see all of above and magnify)
- Seeing people urinating or defecating around the neighborhoods with bathrooms within walking distance
- Seeing many of these people staggar from the beach drunk knowing a high percentage are getting in their vehicles and driving home - putting other drivers throughout the city at risk.
- Seeing our Police officers, Life Guards, Fire and Rescue and Park Rangers taunted, harassed or threatened
- Having to explain to our children, who have witnessed many of the above actions and situations
- Hearing people blame any and all of the above problems (i.e. lack of bathrooms, not enough enforcement, not enough trash cans etc. etc, on the City, the Police or the neighbors of the beach communities; because they refuse to take personal responsibility for thier own personal statements and actions or understanding the physical limits of our City government.
- Not being able to bring my family, my relatives, my friends, employees or out of town guests to the beach of my choice because some people are intent on doing some or all of the above without consideration for others.
Should we continue? We're tired of this behavior which is most often related to the excessive and outrageous drinking patterns of people visiting our beaches.
How many great community residents would never consider living at the beach or, have left the beach communities because they do not want to deal with the continual harassment?
Enough is enough. Let's take back our beaches so we can enjoy them together without a bunch of drunken yahoos ruining it for everyone.
We ask you to join us in supporting our City Council. We believe the abuse of alcohol has reached a point where there is no alternative other than a city ordinance making all San Diego City beaches, including Mission Bay, alcohol-free.

Safe Beaches is a growing coalition of city residents, concerned citizens, regular visitors, businesses, and community groups who support Councilman Kevin Faulconer and other San Diego City Council Members in their leadership to have alcohol-free beaches and parks.
