Drinking Games and Toys

Many visitors to the beach play a variety of drinking games with a variety of toys - some made specifically for drinking more alcohol faster. There are many variations to these games and toys so these definitions are to give you the general idea.

Sure drinking games abound - not just at the beach. Our concern is that the beach is a family environment where kids are unnecessarily exposed to these games. Game and toy variations include:

Funnel - A funnel is attached to about a three-foot long hose with or without a valve at the end of the hose. The funnel and tube are then filled with a can of beer or two. The funnel is held above the drinker's head height who inserts the tube into their mouth and unstops the tube. Another participant holds the funnel as high as possible so that the tube is as vertical as possible. The effects of gravity will cause liquid to be ingested extremely quickly. A person may drink 24 ounces of beer (2 cans worth) in only a few seconds with the aid of this device. The liquid is ingested continuously, as opposed to sipping which stops the flow of liquid.

Beer pong is a drinking game in which players throw a ping pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in one of several cups of beer or other booze on the other end. The game typically consists of two two-player teams, one on each side of a table, and a number of cups set up on each side. The rules vary widely, though usually there are the same number of plastic cups - six, ten or 15 plastic cups - arranged in a triangle on each side. The number of players on a team can vary as well, from one to three or more.

When a ball lands in a cup, the defending team must consume that cup's beer. The game is won by eliminating all the other team's cups before one's own cups are eliminated. The losing team must then consume all the beer remaining in the winning team's cups. The order of play varies - both players on one team shoot, then both players on the other team, or players on opposite teams can alternate back and forth.

Ice Luge
- A block of ice is placed on a table at an angle. Channels are cut in the ice. Then, a person positions thier mouth at the end of the ice luge while another person pours shots of liquor down the channel. By the time the drink reaches the end of the luge it has been chilled.

Dizzy Bat
- Here you open a beer, pour it into a hollow wiffle bat, chug the beer from the bat, place the bat in the sand putting your forehead on the bat - then spin around the bat 10 times. Then you stand up with the bat in hand and try to hit the beer can that someone pitches to you.
